Students may apply for deferred assessment if medical or other extenuating circumstances prevents them from completing an examination or a piece of work due in the last teaching week or later. The process for determining whether deferred assessment is granted is handled by the Examinations Office (EO). If a student wishes to apply for deferred assessment he or she completes an application form and provides the appropriate documentation to the EO. The Examination Office then determines whether the application meets the criteria for deferred assessment. If the application is successful and the deferral is granted, the student is advised by email, and an email is also sent to the Student Records Office so that the interim grade of Q is placed on the students record. If the application is denied the student is also advised by email of the decision. If the application has been denied because of insufficient grounds or documentation, the student may resubmit the application with additional information within 7 days and it will be reconsidered. If the resubmitted application is successful and the deferral is granted, the student is advised by email, and an email is also sent to the Student Records office so that the interim grade of Q is placed on the students record. If the resubmitted application is unsuccessful and the deferral is not granted, the student is advised by email.
