During the last few decades, building codes have been driven largely by architects, engineers, building owners, and construction material manufacturers. These organizations are often motivated by controlling or reducing construction costs. Surprisingly, these organizations do not take testimony from firefighters, fire marshals, and/or fire chiefs when developing building codes. Do you believe the fire service needs to play a more active role in the building code development process? Explain your rationale and offer examples to support your position.
