Question: E = Elevator SR = Storage Room ( 1 5 0 SF or 1 4 SM ) R = Restroom TR = Trash Room (

E= Elevator
SR = Storage Room (150 SF or 14 SM)
R= Restroom
TR = Trash Room (120 SF or 11.1 SM)

Refer to the following International Building Code (IBC) Tables:
Table 508.4, "Required Separation of Occupancies (Hours)" in Appendix A.11
(or Figure 6.6 in the Guidebook)
IBC Table 509, "Incidental Uses" in Appendix A.12(or Figure 6.8 in the Guidebook)
IBC Table 1020.1, "Corridor Fire-Resistance Rating" in Appendix A.13(or Figure 5.11 in
the Guidebook)
IBC Table 716.5, "Opening Fire Protection Assemblies, Ratings and Markings" in
Appendix A.14(or Figure 6.12 in the Guidebook)
Also, use the "Comparison of Occupancy Classifications" chart in Appendix A.1
as required.
Figure 6.1 is a floor plan of the eighth floor in a 10-story nonsprinklered office building.
It shows the layout of the building core and five tenant spaces, as well as the interior of one
tenant space. The tenants are either Business (B) or Mercantile (M) occupancies, as shown
on the plan. The legend at the bottom of the floor plan indicates the name of each labeled
room or space. Specific wall assemblies on the floor plan are labeled with a circled letter
designation, and certain doors (or opening protectives) are labeled with a circled number
designation.
Based on the floor plan, the IBC tables mentioned earlier, and your knowledge of the
codes, first determine the fire resistance rating for each of the labeled wall assemblies. Then,
for each of the labeled opening protectives, determine the fire protection rating of the door
assembly. Also note any situations where an automatic extinguishing system could be sub-
stituted for a rated wall. Write your answers and the code table used in the spaces provided
here. If a rating is not required for a particular item, write "no rating" in the space provided;
or if a code table is not used, write "no table" in the space provided.
