Assume that you are the manager of McDonald's and you are to implement Total Quality Management (TQM)
Question:
Assume that you are the manager of McDonald's and you are to implement Total Quality Management (TQM) within the organisation.
Note: Construct a business proposal or report according to the structure below:
Introduction:
- Purpose: (this is your purpose not the organisation's) this will come straight out of the assignment task.
- Direction: this is how you will go about the tasks
- Scope: this will describe the level of your work (fruit and veg department, admin and finance division...).
Body: Your analysis should explore a number of key issues such as the following:
Quality Management Framework
The framework proposed for this project is the Geotsch and Davis 20 step Total Quality Implementation Process. It is the best suited because...... (State your rationale here, things such as organisation size and service sector alignment may all feature here). It is based on three key aspects to deliver TQM, which are, preparation, planning and execution (explain briefly). The various implementation steps relevant to McDonald's organisation are discussed in turn below.
Commitment to Total Quality
In order to achieve success in any organisational endeavour, top management commitment is essential. This is no different in implementing a quality system where top management behaviours such as ........... and .............. are expected.
Form a Steering Committee
Indicate why you will form the committee and who will chair the committee and who will be the members. Consider promoting engagement, ownership and involvement here. Will you have employee representatives? Will you ask the union to participate? What about suppliers?
Teambuilding
What will you do in your situation? You will all have different approaches to achieve this aspect. You can build teams on all levels, what will you do for the executive (steering committee) team?
Total Quality Training for the Steering Committee
A consultant is engaged in this matter. You can choose to outsource if you wish. If you do outsource you will need to provide a brief for the consultant showing, what you want the committee to be trained to do (roles), key areas leadership and sponsorship of the TQM (Total Quality Management) activities. Details of the training are not required, just cover off the key things you want a consultant to deliver.
Creating Direction and Communication
Briefly explain the factors listed below:
- Create Vision and Guiding Principles: A short discussion of what this means for your organisation.
- Set Broad Strategic Objectives: Be the industry-best provider of widgets in 3 years. Through the implementation of continuous improvement and upgrade of digital technologies, operations will increase its reach in best practice...............
- Communicate and Publicise Activities: The PR department will continuously update the organisation on quality matters.....
- Undertake a SWOT analysis: All you need to do here identify the strengths and weaknesses with a view to mitigating the risks (weaknesses).
- Identify advocates and resisters: This is a change management activity that tries to find champions that will promote the journey and win the resistors. Remember, this is a change project; it is not a matter of if you get push back but when.
Base Line Employee and Customer Satisfaction Levels
Construct some survey questions for staff and survey questions for customer.
Implementation
Describe how you will go about implementing the Total Quality Management (TQM) plan into the business (McDonald's). Talk about PDCA (Plan-Do-Check-Act Cycle) and SPC (Statistical Process Control).
Identify Opportunities to Improve
The Steering Committee may approve CQI teams to undertake improvements. Opportunities to improve can be drawn from across the organisation. Your customers may also give you tips about serving them better.
Establish Teams and Provide Training
Discuss your Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) Team strategy. Extend that to training the what, by whom (outsource or insource) over what time frame.
Team Activation and Direction
Describe the methodology. Teams will approach their work using the PDCA........DMAIC (Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve & Control also known as a data-driven quality strategy). They will report to the Steering Committee every (example: 3 days,...etc)?
Staff and Customer survey feedback to Steering Committee.
The Steering Committee will direct further research and commission improvement teams as opportunities arise.
Modify Operations and Infrastructure as Necessary
Make changes to the way business is delivered as improvements are undertaken.
Conclusion:
Please read the structure carefully and do not answer incorrectly, just explain the main headings listed above. Thank you.
