Electronic technology has reached to a point where it is technologically( although not necessarily economically feasible) to provide workers with a laptop so that they can access via internet to online databases. With time for most white collar workers this 'at-home', office will become economically feasible. At about time this all becomes a reality, serious people will ask, Why do we still follow the primitive feature of going to work? why don't we do our jobs at home, since most white-collar workers are information handlers? For many the practice of going to work will end for man workers. People will still work and some will even have to 'go to work', especially those who provide services to others in retail establishments. But many clerical, technical, and professional workers will be able to stay home, plugged into a worldwide information grid. Now, that Covid has made this scenario partially true. Assume this scenario holds true during your career: Question 1) What implications does it hold for culture and society? Question 2) What are the implications of these changes for operations managers?
