ELEVATION ALONG GRID A
PART I. PROBLEM Description
You are asked to design a simple temporary scaffolding system for a construction site shown below. The structure is composed of 4 levels of platform, Each level is made of 25mm thick steel plate that will be supported by a W18X35 Steel beam.
The steel beams wil be SIMPLY SUPPORTED by a Steel columns. The Steel plate will rest on top of the steel beam and will NOT be welded, NOR BOLTED on the top flanges of the beam. Instead, a C-Channel will be located between the beams as shown in the plan and will provide LATERAL SUPPORT for the Steel Beam. Also, the steel plate wil act like a ONE-WAY SLAB (will transfer only its load along the shorter dimension of the plate)
The steel columns are 12m high, with lateral bracing supports at every 3m. The bottom of the Steel column is fixed while the top is pinned but will move horizontally (with translation).
The following are the load and design parameters to be used.
Fy(steel beam)=248Mpa(36ksi)
