Goal: To create a 40-60 second personal elevator pitch, that can be used as a networking and job search tool.
Background:
An elevator pitch is a brief and clear message about you. It communicates who you are, what you do, what you offer, how you can benefit an organization, and what you are looking for. The idea behind an elevator pitch is that you have prepared it and rehearsed it in advance so that you are ready to introduce yourself whenever a good connection presents itself (such as at a career fair or networking).You want to sound enthusiastic but natural and be able to breeze through it when the time comes.
Format:
Submit a script (Word doc) AND a video (link) of your Elevator Pitch to BlackBoard. Please put the link to your video at the bottom of your script (and ensure video is not marked private). Your video pitch should be concise: 40 - 60 seconds, which is approximately 10 - 12sentences.

The pitch topics and mechanics below will help you write a pre-prepared pitch that grabs the listeners attention and says a lot in a few words. As a guideline, use each point below to write two short, powerful sentences. There are 5 areas that need to be covered:
1. WHO YOU ARE:
Smile, and open with a statement or a question that grabs attention (a hook that catches listeners attention)
State who you are: Marketing student at GBC / role at work or elsewhere. Consider sharing youryear in school or a key identifier (photographer, athlete, musician, activist, etc.). But - only include personal information that is relevant to the role/position youre interested in
2. WHAT YOU DO / HAVE DONE:
Elaborate on who you are level or title at current or past company or volunteer organization(animal shelter, Girl Guides, food bank, etc.) or leadership role (camp counsellor, sports coach/ref, Big Brother/Sister)
Consider sharing a promotion or achievement or number of years at a job or as a volunteer ordescribe a passion (again, only if the passion is relevant to the role you seek)
3. WHAT YOU OFFER / YOUR BENEFITS / SKILLS:
What are 2 benefits, special skills, personal qualities or unique experiences that you offer? How do these set you apart from other job applicants? (Not just generic nice-to-have qualities.)
4. HOW YOU DEMONSTRATE YOUR UNIQUENESS:
Give one concrete example that illustrates/shows your uniqueness: a specific skill, a key accomplishment, a milestone youve achieved, a problem you solved or a contribution you made. This vivid (but brief) example is likely what will be remembered.
5. WHAT YOURE LOOKING FOR & CALL TO ACTION:
What is your career goal? What do you aspire to do or to be? If known - whatrole/position/company/industry are you looking for? (This can be general but is important).
What is the response you desire after your elevator pitch? Do you want a business card, a referralto someone else, a casual sit-down, an appointment for a meeting?
