As specified in the regulations and as upheld by the courts, EMTALA applies beyond the walls of the emergency department, potentially covering inbound ambulance and areas outside the hospital. Does that make sense? In what circumstances might emergency patients present outside the ED? What administrative challenges do you foresee in complying with this aspect of EMTALA?
