@ Enter Focus Mode A A A It was another hot, sunny day at the beach. | looked around at all the people playing in the sand and water. There were all different kinds of families splashing on the shore, and a few surfers bravely trying to ride the waves. The people, however, did not interest me nearly as much as what they had with them: their food. | saw people drinking sodas out of cans and water out of bottles. Those didn't interest me so much. Although | do get thirsty, it's easier for me to drink seawater than to sip someone's drink from a container like that. | saw people carrying sandwiches in little plastic boxes. The sandwiches locked quite tasty indeed, but they're not easy to take when they're all sealed up like that. | kept searching. Finally, | found my mark. A large man had just ordered some french fries from a stand on the boardwalk. The fries sat in their little paper envelope, easily grabbed from above, ripe for the taking. | swooped down from a lamppost while the man fumbled with his wallet, trying to pay for the fries. Success! | grabbed two long, salty fries in my beak and rose back up into the air. The man let out a yelp of surprise and some of the other humans pointed and giggled. Back on my lamppost perch, | ate the two delicious fries in safety. | knew it wouldn't be long until | found my next free meal. Life is good for a seagull at the beach. There's always more to steal.
