Ethical Issues in Group Membership: Informed consent issues. A group leader operates on the assumption that giving members information about her groups will ultimately be counterproductive. She does not tell them about the nature of group process, the procedures she may use, or the best ways to get the maximum benefit from the group. She is concerned that members would focus on meeting her expectations. She does not emphasize defining goals and believes that members' uncertainty about what they want from the group will be good material to explore as part of the group process.
