-Even thou it says (team) my instructor has allowed me to complete the project by myself from one point of view.
Draft Project Proposal and Requirements
Your first activity is to submit a document outlining your group project. The instructor will evaluate this for approval. This document should outline the following items:
Team Name
All Team Members
The technology used for the system (OS version, services, etc.)
The initial plan for your system
How this project will meet the minimum project requirements
The minimum project requirements are as follows:
Be a complete, logical progression, Capture the Flag system
Can be either one virtual machine or set of virtual machines (max 3) that work together.
Include 3-5 Easy Flags
Include 3-5 Medium Flags
Include 3-5 Hard Flags
Include at least 1 Root Flag
Note: By logical progression, it is meant that the hints from Easy flags should help lead toward harder flags, etc. Teams will have to work together to coordinate which flags lead to which next flags and who is responsible for each and the hint text included.
Use at least one full Linux type operating system (usually older is better). Can use multiple versions if making multiple virtual machines.
Must use at least three different services, ideally more, to make your flags available such as:
Telnet
FTP
SSH
HTTP
Database(s)
Shells (nc for example)
Any other server/service
Note: Doing a full install of whichever operating system is chosen should provide most services by default. But Students may need to install additional services and will need to configure (or misconfigure) the services they plan to use for their flags. They should do this for their flags in their virtual machine first, then will have to implement these in the group virtual machine(s) as appropriate.
Teams should work together to quickly put a draft proposal document together and then each team member should submit a copy through this form to get attendance and activity credit for this first step of the project.
Feedback, as appropriate, will be provided by the Instructor. Teams should continue to refine their proposal and will submit the final version as part of the Week 1 activity at the end of the first week.
