Example

Be sure to include the date of the week that this information was observed and a briefdescription of each skill.

  • Example: Social and Emotional Development:Timmy recognized the pictures of a duck, horse, and cow by pointing to them when they were named. He also made animal sounds for a horse, a cow, a duck, and a pig.
  • For interests, focus on what new things you saw the toddler interested in. Include more than one interest that was observed.
    • Good Example: This week, Timmy showed interest in the dinosaurs. While playing in the block area, he made dinosaur noises and laughed as he moved them around.
    • Bad Example:Timmy really liked the dinosaurs this week!
  • For strategies, any strategies that were used and how they were used to help the toddler, by you or other teachers.Include how the child responded or if they did not respond.
    • Good Example:This week, we used different strategies to help Timmy work on his goals. While he was playing with the blocks, a teacher challenged him to stack the blocks five high. He stacked three but did not sack more than that. I also asked Timmy to share his crayons while in the art area with a peer. He responded by giving his peer one crayon.
    • Bad Example:This week we invited Timmy to come to Large Group but he was mad and did not come.
  • For goals, about what goals the children worked on that day and how they did. If they did not reach any goals, describe how they were given the opportunity to work on a goal, but did not reach it that day.
    • Good Example:This week, we worked on helping Timmy take turns in different activities. When given the opportunity to take turns on the mini trampoline, he followed instructions to wait his turn. To encourage this, we sang a song to help him pass the time quicker. We also tried to work on saying word sentences, but when given the opportunity, Timmy generally only said ! word sentences.
    • Bad Example:This week, Timmy took turns on the mini trampoline. He also refused to say longer sentences than words. We will keep working on this next week.
