Exercise $5-4$: In this problem, we ask you to think about how machine learning could be

useful to you for a specific application. This could be something you are currently working on$,$ or

an engineering problem that you have a general interest in$.$

What is a specific engineering task or research problem you envision that could benefit from

machine learning? What makes you think that machine learning would be a good choice for

this task, rather than more traditional methods?

Describe the inputs and outputs that you would want in a machine learning model of your

above problem. Are your desired outputs continuous or discrete $($or somewhere in between$)?$

Make an educated guess on a good choice of a general class of machine learning algorithm to

use for this problem, and describe why you chose it in $2-3$ sentences. In particular, mention

why you chose a supervised or unsupervised algorithm, and how your algorithm choice relates

to your inputs and outputs.

Do you have any big concerns with using machine learning for this problem or task? For

example, accuracy, safety, interpretability?

This is meant to be a $15$ minute problem; there's no need to write an entire research proposal.

You will be graded for responding to the prompts, and for demonstrating big$-$picture understand$-$

ing.
