He was sentenced to 16 years 1 month in prison Captain Schettino and Costa Crociere, a division of Carnival Corporation, were ordered to pay $34,000 in damages to every passenger on the ship as well as several millions of euros to both local and the Italian government for the environmental damage caused by the sinking.
