1. Explain, in your own words, how being too over focused on strategic planning may cause a business to miss out on significant profit? Use at least two real-world examples you think best support your answer.
2. Research the past three Massachusetts governors. Which of the three do you feel was/is a good strategic leader? Be as descriptive as possible either in favor or opposition to the actions which led to your choice. In your mind, what could your choice do/have done better from a leadership perspective?
3. What impact will this pandemic have on how management classes are taught at this and other universities throughout the country/world? Be as specific in regards to content, style, etc. What macroenvironmental factors caused by the pandemic will impact this change?
4. Using the list provided from Chapter 4 (or any additional you may feel relevant) which of the steps listed represent the fastest way to increase efficiency? How important is it to overall profitability whether the way you selected is/is not the most cost effective way? Give at least one example of one company that utilized your choice and explain how it led to its success.
5. How does market segmentation apply to the management of a college or university? In what ways has Westfield State recently (past 5 years) attempted to increase their segmentation efforts? Does this segmentation provide more benefits to the students or to the university itself?
6. Read Case 9 from Section 5 (Apple at Fourty.) Expand upon the analysis presented to include recent actions by Apple since case was completed (2018). What have they done to improve, where have they made mistakes, etc.? Be sure to explain with as much as detail as possible and include at least one idea you believe they should employ to increase their success.
