It is the responsibility of each boss to learn on the job. The company could use new ideas from experts so we decided to hire from outside the company we spent $34,200 on employee training. The exeption we made was choosing to promote employees from level 1 to level 2. We spent $1000 on managemnt training for the manager hired from outside the comapny. We spent $12,000 on safety training to prevent accidents and reduce absenteeism. We spent $25,000 on quality training to reduce complaints, turnover and enhance training. The programs we chose are employee participation (increase morale) grievance procedure (there was no formal grievence procedure) orientation program (reduce accidants and turnover) performance appraisal system (obtain feedback) and an affirmitive action program (to increase female and minorty staff levels). For our special decision we chose suprervisor training because management must be trained to identify and respond in the event of a crisis. This quarter we also included employee funded retirement in order to reduce grievances and boost benefits and morale. We chose not to increase wages this time and 10 / 21 instead spent more in management training and less on quality training. we still have the same number of programs offered as last quarter. We increased the female and minority demographics to 25% each to work alongside the affirmitive action plan to increase diversity at the company. For the special decision we selected beth for a promotion and chose to hire the female with a 4 year degree as a new manager for level 3. Wages were increased at all levels by 1% by increasing wages we hope to improve turnover rates to meet our smart goal. We gave employees an additional vacation/sick day to help increase their morale and lower turnover rates allowing us to reach our goal of reducing employee turnover by 2% in quarter 6. We want to reduce the number of grievances by 4% in quarter 7 so we chose the special decision that provides mental health care and other care for employees. We kept our programs the same as they have been effective and do not need to be reduced, additionally we did not invest more in training this quarter again to reduce the amount of unit labour costs. We chose not to employ part-time workers because we would have increaed training and hiring costs due to having to hire 2 part time workers for 1 full time worker and with the employees being in a union we believe that it would reduce their morale and possibly lead to more tunrover due to lack of job security.
