Files are a very important component of any computing system and managing them is an essential operating system task. Consider the hypothetical scenario that you are part of the design team for a new operating system, and you are required to design its file system.

Imagine a new file system structure, for example by assuming your operating system is a very specialized one, and therefore its file system will also be quite particular (it may be even quite a strange one, that is ok). What would be the components of your file system? How would the file system work (operate), give examples of its advantages and disadvantages.

Examples here could be file systems specialized for gaming, for multimedia, for medicine, or any other areas. Try to keep your imagination in check, though, by considering issues like the size of current hard disks, the implementation effort, size occupied on disk, fragmentation, etc. Clearly you can adapt existing file systems to suit your particular goals.
