Purpose of Assignment:

• The purpose of this assignment is to develop research, communication and presentation skills (i.e. put into action aspects of curriculum learning skills) and increase class awareness of current business related events and their relationship to course content.

Assignment Expectations/Deadlines:

• Find an article that pertains to some area of Personal Finance. Ideally, something that the class will benefit either now or later in life.

• You have committed to a presentation date for this assignment. If for some reason you are unable to fulfill this commitment, you must take the initiative and make arrangements to switch with another student one week prior to your presentation date. Your teacher must approve this change in date. Should you be away the day of your presentation, without evidence to support your absence, a grade of zero will be assigned.

Criteria for article selection:

• Find an article that pertains to some area of Personal Finance. Ideally, something that the class will benefit either now or later in life.
• The article must be current. Dont use an article from years ago. If you are unsure, just ask.
• The article must be a minimum of 250-500 words in length (1 2 pages)
• Possible credible sources include The Globe and Mail, Business Week, Financial Post, Toronto Star, National Post, Economist, but it can come from another source.

Presentation of Article

• Allocation: 5 minutes/4-5 Slides/2 thought provoking questions to be included

• Title Slide
  • Title of article
  • Your name (first and last)
  • Teachers name/course code and section (i.e. Mr. Tolmie, IDC4U)
  • Date of presentation
  • Important Note: in the section of ppt, please copy/paste URL link to the original article for reference.

• Article Overview (1-2 slides)
  • Provide the main points from the article (bullet point form discussion points)
  • Visuals, videos can be used to support in conveying additional/background information about your topic at hand (however, keep in mind to be cognizant of your timing). Note: video clips under 2 minutes are preferred.
  • *Include one discussion point for audience
• Relevance to Financial Literacy (Course Content)
  • Provide 3 bullet/discussion points of how this article relates to course content (or how it will help you and the class benefit in financial decisions in the future)
  • *Include one discussion point for audience

  • Discuss your opinion of the article.
  • Bullet point form is preferred.

• Test for Knowledge (Kahoot or other)

• Allocation: 5 minutes for Class Activity

• (10 minutes max for your entire presentation)
