Write a thesis statement with a controlling idea. An example thesis statement is "Companies should continue to manufacture snake antivenin in order to save lives, even if a company claims that it cannot make a profit." $q,$

When you write your thesis statement, be sure to use exact language. Replace vague words and ideas with more specific information. Sometimes you can make your thesis statement more specific by stating the natural divisions of the subject. Stating these in the thesis can set up an outline for your whole essay. Also, avoid stating the obvious in your thesis statement. Announcements such as "Now I will write" or "This essay will discuss" simply take up room and don't tell your reader anything he or she does not already know.
