For a certain industrial zone, the maximum and minimum power demands are 40 MW and10 MW respectively. Its load duration curve can be approximated as shown in figure Q4.1. The hydropower available at the time of a minimum regulated flow is just sufficient to cater to a peak load of 50 MWh/day. Further, it has been observed that it will be economical to pump water from tailrace to the reservoir by utilizing the steam power plant during the off-peak periods and thus running the station at a 100% load factor. Determine the maximum capacity of the pump storage hydro plant and the steam plant. Assume the efficiency of the steam conversion to be 60%.
