For Assignment #1 I'd like you to re-design a parent or co-worker's job using the Job Characteristics Model so it is more motivating There are three parts to this assignment (5 points each) 1. Interview a relatwe or co-worker to better understand his/her/their job. For the job, briefly identifyllist the following job, position task(s). elements, knowledge required skills required, abilities required, other charactenstics required, and any environmental issues (eg chemicals used, noises exposed to) or tools needed. You may need to explain to them what each term means/pronde them with examples of the different terms, if they are unclear Part of the assignment is making sure you are clear about the job and how to describe it 2. Interew the relatie of co-worker and ask them about the degree to which their job has each characteristic of the JCT (eg, skill variety , etc.) You may need to explain to them what each characteristic is so that you are able to clearly understand each characteristic. For each characteristic, first rate it on a scale of 1 (low) to 5 (high), then explain your rating 3. Cooking at Pait 2 use the information provided by your interviewee and imagine you are a consultant in regard to job design based on the JCT for the 2-3 JCT characteristics that are lowest, what could be modified/addedchanged/removed so that the job itself is more motivating (be specific). Oke any good consultant you are encouraged to ask your interviewee for relevant suggestions to improve the job design, although don't stop with their suggestions. Note: Watching Dan Pink's TED talk in this week's lesson module provides some examples of what organizations have done regarding this issue
