I work for a financial company in Columbus, Ohio and Disaster Recovery Plan is an important part of our daily activities. Being a financial organization, there is absolutely no room for data loss. Every second there is a downtime to the system there is a lot of data loss resulting in financial loss to the organization. Disaster recovery can also impact the availability of the system which impacts the reputation of the organization. There are multiple disaster recovery plans incorporated by the organization based on the kind of the impact. Business Disaster Recovery plan are often interconnected to the Business Continuity plan, since there is a high need for the business availability. The Business recovery plan includes steps from identifying the issue and involving concerned parties if they are the Development team, networking team, Database admin etc. who are all brought together as per the recovery plan. These practices have been in place for a long time and are revisited on an occasional basis. The systems are robust to have a graceful failover, should an event for disaster occur. The recovery plan is informative enough and the learning from the previous incidents helps identify the direction the issue has to be driven to contain and mitigate the incidents.
