For the final paper which covers your General Education Task, you will research and write a paper on the issue of Income Inequality and Poverty in the United States. We have social programs to help mitigate the effects of this disparity of wealth. There are consequences to this disparity; there are also consequences to attempts to redistribute income.

There are many different viewpoints you can approach this topic. Specific topics students have written on in previous classes include;

Criminalization of poverty

Gender roles in poverty

Race and poverty

Poverty causes and issues in a given state (e.g. Mississippi, West Virginia, etc.)

If we eliminate poverty, will our economic system crash?

Topics or theories you may want to include are market failure and public goods. Include causes and possible solutions, as well as implications on our nation's economic system and unintended consequences of poverty. Use theories learned in this class in your evaluation. Also, if possible include examples from your life experiences to support your research.

This paper should be 1,000 words or more and include at least 5 works cited, other than the textbook.
