For this journal activity, students will use the information they have learned in the module to respond thoughtfully to a hypothetical real-world situation.
Your next-door neighbor is Sarah. Sarah is 62-years-old and has no family history of Alzheimer's. She is having concerns, however, about some recent memory lapses. She tells you that yesterday she left her house keys in the door after letting herself in to her home. Last week she couldn't remember her sister's middle name, and a month before that she got lost at the farmer's market. She tells you that she has already made an appointment next week with her doctor. In the meantime, though, she wants to know 1) If you think she could have Alzheimer's, 2) How the disease is diagnosed, and 3) What will happen to her if she does have Alzheimer's disease.
Address Sarah's questions and concerns in 1 to 2 double-spaced pages in 12-point font. Be sure to explain WHY you might suspect she does or does not have the disease. Please provide in-text citations to support your reasoning. Be clear about what she can expect as far as the process for receiving a diagnosis and how the disease progresses. Remember that Sarah is your neighbor and friend, so be sure to respond thoughtfully and with consideration.
