For this Team Project, you'll work with the same team of two or three people as for your Team Contract, unless otherwise directed. While your responses should be informed by your readings and discussions with your group, do NOT use research or any outside source to complete this Team Project. Whether quoted or paraphrased, research (even with citations) is not allowed. Your responses should be based on your own (informed) ideas and presented in your own words, in complete sentences. Organize your responses and label them as Part 1, A, etc. Global business is now the norm, and effective intercultural communication is a core business skill. While there are obstacles associated with communicating across different languages and cultures, using simple, clear business English, free of idioms, is the place to start. What other strategies should be part of your basic communication expertise? In your Week Six materials and chapter 3 readings, you'll learn about some of the barriers that must be recognized and overcome and some of the strategies suggested for ensuring respectful, effective intercultural communications, both non-verbal and verbal. Keep these strategies in mind as you respond to parts 1 and 2 below. Part 1. Culture & Stereotypes 8 marks-thoughtful, accurate, complete, grammatically correct Discuss with your group partners the various cultures that each of you belongs to or has close knowledge of. These cultures might be based on differences in geography, ethnic culture, lifestyle factors (e.g., vegans, athletes, etc.), or other aspects that differentiate groups of people from one another. Then select one of these cultures and complete the following: A. Briefly describe what differentiates this cultural group from others. (2 marks) B. Identify one common inaccurate stereotype associated with this cultural group. (1 marks) C. Explain how this stereotype is damaging to both individuals and to society. For this part, consider ethnocentrism, stereotyping, etc., discussed on p. 65 of your textbook. (5 marks) Part 2. Cross-cultural Communication 12 marks-thoughtful, accurate, complete, grammatically correct A. Identify three important and distinct guidelines that staff should follow in communicating across cultures, in order to maximize the opportunities offered by diverse workforces and multinational business connections. Remember that cultural differences encompass a broad range of factors: age, gender, religion, ethnic heritage, geography, military experience, lifestyle, and more (Thill et al, 2019, p. 63).
