For your class project, think back to 1997 when Netflix launched as a 'DVD by Mail' option for video rentals. Blockbuster was the major player in the video market at the time. As time went on however, more and more consumers switched to Netflix and Blockbuster began to close some of (eventually all of) their stores. Netflix didnt quit innovating. It continued to offer new and unique services like movie recommendations based on consumer preferences and later to streaming movies - both innovations became industry standards.
Choose a product or service that you buy on a regular basis. Write a brief description of how this product is positioned in the marketplace relative to its competition. Then figure out why you are a loyal customer and how the competition could pull you away in the future. What could the competition do that would cause you to no longer be a loyal customer? Then, write a three page plan for what your product or service could do to keep you as a customer and shore-up their position as your preferred provider as well as their overall position in the market place.
