When I'm not driving my daughter to her gymnastics practices and competitions, you'll likely find me outdoors enjoying nature. | love fishing, hiking, backpacking, and CrossFit. I'm currently working as a controller for a family-owned construction business and in the process of starting my own consulting business. I've been in the role of Controller for over ten years, and during that time, I've had the opportunity to oversee audits, ensure financial compliance, and maintain internal controls. My goal for this course is to refine my understanding of ethical frameworks and their application to real-world accounting and financial decision-making. I'm especially interested in how ethics intersect with audit responsibilities and how professionals can safeguard their integrity in high-pressure environments. Over the years, I've encountered several ethical situations. One that stands out involved the misclassification of project-related expenses to manipulate job cost reports. Although the intent was to secure more favorable internal reviews, this behavior undermined transparency. Fortunately, our team identified the issue early. We addressed it through internal review procedures, corrected the entries, and implemented stronger segregation of duties to prevent recurrence. | firmly believe in addressing ethical concerns directly and developing a culture of accountability. I'm a rule-follower by nature and don't believe in bending the rules. It's important to me to sleep well at night knowing I've done the right thing. As someone with hands-on experience in financial reporting and compliance, I'm aware that ethical violations in accounting can range from misstating revenue and manipulating expenses to more serious fraud, such as embezzlement or collusion. The Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE) consistently finds that the construction industry is vulnerable to asset misappropriation and billing schemes due to decentralized operations and weak internal controls (ACFE, 2022). These violations not only damage reputations but can also lead to legal consequences, job loss, and erosion of trust. The AICPA Code of Professional Conduct emphasizes integrity, objectivity, and due care principles that | strive to uphold in every aspect of my work (AICPA, 2014)
