Functionalism is arguably better than the Mind-Brain Identity Theory because its definition of the mind is less restrictive. The Mind-Brain Identity Theory says Mind (filled with beliefs, desires, emotions etc ) IS IDENTICAL TO Human Brain (filled with neurons, blood, oxygen etc.) Every feature of the mind is identical to some feature of the human brain. Believing that snow is white is exactly the same as certain neurons firing in a certain pattern, for example. According to Functionalism by contrast, anything that can process information in such a way as to be able to reason or wonder about things would be a mind. Anything that has beliefs and desires and hopes and fears and plans would be a mind. If it can do that without having a brain or a human brain, so be it.

QUESTION: What would be an example of something that is DIFFERENT form a human physically, but which, in your view, has a mind. What makes you think it has a mind?
