Lutsen Mountains Ski & Summer Resort will host a regional alpine event in early January of 2021. You work at the resort and have been named the Event Manager for the regional competition. For decades, the resort could rely on considerable snowfall starting in November, and had the ability to open by Thanksgiving. Unfortunately, by mid-December, the resort hasnt received much snowfall, and the forecasters have told you its a 50/50 chance that youll have enough snow to safely host the event. You can always make your own snow, but that is costly and will eat into your bottom line. Additionally, skiers dont like man-made snow, and that could lead to lower turnout for the event. No matter the weather, the resort WILL host the event, and its your job to make it a success. Additionally, youre concerned about the climate and what its doing to the resort, so you decide to pitch Lutsen ownership on going green. In this Case Study, Im asking you to address the impact of Climate Change on two (2) important aspects weve covered over the past few weeks:

• Green Facility
• Event Management

Let the initial prompt guide your paper, but here are a few questions to consider:

• How does climate change impact you as the Event Manager? How do you overcome these obstacles?
• Knowing the impact climate change can have on future resort success, what steps will you take to ensure your event and facility are as green as possible? Can you retrofit your resort facilities for LEED certification? If so, is it worth it?

Take your cues from other sport facilities and events that have run into similar snow issues (e.g., Iditarod, American Birkebeiner). Use some of their ideas, or learn from their mistakes. Use academic sources (i.e., academic journal articles) to support your decisions and logical argument.
