Getting Started

The first step in strategic planning is the identification of the organization's mission and vision. Next comes the assessment of the organization's culture. In order to plan effectively, you must have a clear understanding of the role of mission, vision, and culture in an organization's strategic plan.

1. Conduct outside research on the role of mission, vision, and culture in strategic planning.
2. Asked as a member of the management of Coastal Medical Center to be part of a panel discussion on strategic planning for an undergraduate health administration class at Indiana Wesleyan University. Specifically, you are asked to focus on mission, vision, and culture, and their roles in the strategic planning process.
3. In preparation for the class, the instructor has asked to insert a written summary of your comments to be distributed to the students.
