I personally have experienced these social media issues with past co workers. I am a very private person so I do not post on social media and I have always been briefed by my military parents and past about operational security. Which means you pretty much do not post anything that can be traced back to locations, security questions.life events or any political,religious views. I also do not believe in adding coworkers to social media accounts.

I had a coworker who was working at 2 different jobs so she asked to leave early from one job so she could go to the other job. The next day she was venting on her social media about all the things she hated about one of the jobs the owner of the company was on her social media told her that her post were inappropriate even though she never named the place and fired her on social media, I personally thought the whole thing was very unprofessional. The coworker went back and forth ugly words were exchanged and it was a public forum. I think that it is better to keep your social media private or just do not add coworkers.

My example of a business communication failure is related to social media and, in this case, Facebook. A nurse that worked for Nationwide Children's Hospital in Ohio was fired after a video of her surfaced on social media using racial slurs towards an African American man outside of a local bar. The video also made it to the local news station. Nationwide Children's hospital had no choice but to terminate the nurse for her actions immediately.

Employees often think that their private life won't affect their careers, but that couldn't be more incorrect. Social media or videos of an employee doing anything that goes against the organization's values will be terminated from their position. My organization has quarterly training on using social media to post about the organization, and I stay away from posting anything work-related on social media to avoid any issues.
