The article that I read was about drunk driving. Drunk driving is a higher percentage of deaths in the United States than it should be. The article stated that 27% of the drunk drivers are 21-24 and 25% are 25-34. It also said that 24% of the teen drivers, ages 15-20, that died in car accidents had a .01 or higher blood alcohol concentration. It also stated the number of drunk driving deaths in each individual state from the years 2009-2018. The state with the lowest number is Vermont with 186 and Texas with the highest amount being 13, 592. Colorado is on the low end for total number of deaths with 1548. The article also includes some random facts about drunk driving. The NHTSA says that roughly one-third of the fatal car crashes in the United States involves a drunk driver. There was also a study where 6% of teens said they drove with drinking and 17% said they knowingly rode in a car with another person who had been drinking. Lastly it gives some information on insurance costs for cars. If you have a perfect driving record your average annual cost is $1,998, but after one DUI it shoots up to $3, 806 on average annually. All and all driving drunk is just a really bad idea.

Statistics are found throughout media in many different topics. Inflation has recently been a major topic of discussion. In the article Consumer Prices Are Still Climbing Rapidly, author, Jenna Smialek discusses some of the current statistics surrounding inflation. Smialek utilizes data and graphs from the Bureau of Labor Statistic to illustrate inflation, both recently and over a longer period. One surprising statistic is that in March 2022 inflation increased by 8.5 percent. She also discusses how inflation impacts the stock market and can ultimately trickle down in all aspects of the economy. I think that her use of statistics were very effective in the article.
