Given: Assume that the framing plan in Figure 9.A is to be used for the second-floor framing of a two-story retail sales building. Lateral winds forces are
wr =450 lb/ft
wL =450 lb/ft
Floor live load L is to be in accordance with the IBC. Panel is STRUCTURAL I.
Find:
a. Required span-rating and panel thickness.
b. Required panel nailing. Check unit shears in both transverse and longitudinal directions. Show all criteria in design calculations.
c. Calculate the maximum chord force and collector force in the building. Assume that three 2 x 6s of No.1 DF L are used as the top plate in the building. Check the maximum stress in this member if it serves as the chord and collector. At any point in the plate, two 2 x 6s are continuous (i.e. only one member is spliced at a given location). A single row of 1-in.-diameter bolts is used for the connections. CM =1.0, and Ct =1.0.
d. Assuming splices in the chords are spaced every 20 ft, determine the deflection of the diaphragm. Assume the structure is constructed and maintained in the dry condition.
Given: Assume that the framing plan in Figure 9 .
