Given that the DPC is the legislative body in implementing data protection law, there are significant responsibilities, laws, and legislation that the organization must ensure they comply with $($Data Protection Commission, $2019).$For example, legislation directly relevant to the DPC is the GDPR$,$ the Data Protection Act $2018,$ the E$-$Privacy Directive and the Law Enforcement Directive $($Data Protection Commission, $2019)$ In addition to this, court decisions have an impact particularly when they are decisions set in case law where the DPC are upholding the law, this sets a precedent in courtrooms for future similar cases. The DPC must ensure they are adhering to the strict processes set in place prior to the case escalating to court. On a wider perspective, as the GDPR is not just local to Ireland, there are cross$-$border implications when considering the regulation on a wider EU level. Within the DPC exists a specific team handling cross$-$border complaints and this team must ensure they understand the directive and its aims which state $$to protect the right of individuals to the protection of their personal data while guaranteeing a high level of public security.$($European
