given what you learned in this lesson, what additional recommendations do you have? If you do not have additional recommendations, reflect the those that your fellow student made: what is the likelihood of success from these recommendations?
Do you have any questions about this case for your fellow student that would help you better apply the lesson material?
At my previous job, I was one of the two part-time managers. The other part-time manager didn't do as much work as I had but she had been there longer. An example of this was that when there was a floorset to move I would move it even when she was also working. Another example of this was when I would do shipment all by myself even when she was supposed to help me. I would also be the only one helping customers and greeting them when they walked in. In my opinion, I did a lot more work then she did even though we had the same jobs and responsibilities. However, she was getting paid three dollars more than me while also getting more hours then me weekly. After letting this go on for more than a year, I asked for my hourly rate to equal hers since I did twice the work. This was denied and so I looked at other jobs.
2. This is a clear example of the Equity Theory that we learned about in our lessons. For example, I had more motivation and skills then her so I expected to get paid more or equal to the other manager (Canvas, 2024). This perfectly describes the input, output quality that is perceived in this theory. I expected an equality that wasn't set in stone at my previous workplace and therefore lost motivation when it didn't happen. In Cropanzano's article we see how organizations can cause employee attitudes and behaviors. Fairness is highlighted in this article as it creates a key point that fairness and good treatment will then cause employees to work better as they will have more motivation (Cropanzano, 2017).
3. My recommendation for my previous employer would be to insert fairness into the management roles. It was clear that I was doing more work than the other part-time manager and my employer saw this on many different occasions. Nothing was done to equal the workload though. In the future, I believe she should equal the workload between managers and ensure they are being done by those responsible. She should also talk to her higher ups about rewarding those who are flourishing in the workplace.
