Question: Go to the NYS data website: https://health.data.ny.gov/browse In the search bar type: baby names Select Baby Names: Beginning 2007 At the top of the page
Go to the NYS data website:
https://health.data.ny.gov/browse
In the search bar type: baby names
Select "Baby Names: Beginning 2007" At the top of the page select Export> select "CSV for Excel" and download the file
Open the Excel file> Select all columns and select the "data" tab>select filter. At the top of each column, you should now see drop down arrows to filter the data (See Course Resources for a video)
Filter for the most recent year
Select either M or F (the choice is yours)
Filter the most common 5 names
Note how the data changes as you filter.
Using the data in the spreadsheet, filter the data to make a graph to display the data of your choosing. You can compare different years, different locations etc.
After you have created your graph, make a brief statement about the data. Your statement should be MEANINGFUL. It should not just be "this chart shows baby names." Think if you were preparing a report about your data to the Board of Directors. You would want a descriptive sentence to introduce your graph.
Submit your graph in an Excel (your sentence should be there as well).
