Goal number one is to develop a consistent writing habit. Specifically, I plan to spend at least 30 minutes every other day either writing freely or working on course assignments. To keep track, I'll maintain a weekly writing log so that way I have a routine throughout the semester. I believe this is attainable by setting aside dedicated time slots throughout the week, minimizing distractions, and creating a distraction-free writing environment. This goal is relevant because regular writing practice enhances overall writing skills, boosts creativity, and improves my ability to meet deadlines.
Goal number two is that I will create strong thesis statements for my essays. I'm aiming to make them clear and persuasive. I'll know I'm making progress if I receive positive feedback on my thesis statements in the majority of my assignments from both instructors and peers. To achieve this, I plan to attend the writing center, and use that feedback and discuss my ideas with them. This goal is relevant because a strong thesis is crucial for writing convincing and well-organized essays.
My goal number 3 is to write more clearly and stay on the topic of what Im writing about. I will get better at expressing thoughts clearly by removing words that aren't necessary and avoiding repeating the same ideas. I will practice writing clearly by editing my work and having my peers proofread my work. This is because being able to write concisely is important for clear communication and getting the main point across.
Goal number 4 is to be more involved in writing workshops and course discussions. Specifically, I want to actively engage to gain diverse perspectives and constructive feedback. Achieving this is possible by actively participating in discussions and giving constructive feedback to peers. This goal is relevant because participation broadens my learning, exposes me to different writing styles, and provides insights for improvement.
To pass Write 302, I'm pushing myself to complete every assignment with 100% of my effort and will use my resources and set of goals to ensure a focused approach to success in Write 302.
The department/program that runs this course is the WSU Writing Center. Those who might respond to my submitted work in Canvas are my peers and my instructor Professor Brooklyn Walter. You are allowed to submit work after deadlines if its submitted within 3 weeks, after that you will start losing points. The deadline pattern for the weekly discussion forum activities is that your original post is due that Wednesday and your two responses to your peers are due on Sunday. You do not have to complete every single assignment but the independent and incentivized assignments are more important than others may be. The in-person components of this course are appointments scheduled by yourself such as visiting the writing center.
