The initial problem I took on with my chosen organization $($UNM African American Student Services$)$ was improving staff onboarding and accountability. This involves ensuring clear expectations for task completion, enhancing the quality of services provided, and fostering a higher level of professionalism within the team to better support student success.

To gather data, I conducted one$-$on$-$one interviews, observed, conducted an environmental scan, and a distributed a survey to collect insights from current staff members and evaluate the existing practices. The data revealed a lack of a robust onboarding processes and current practices did not foster long term retention of departmental policies and procedures amongst professional staff members. Additionally, I found that there is no effective system for tracking staff performance or holding team members accountable for the quality of their work.

My initial assessments suggest that AASS lacks a structured onboarding process and clear expectations for staff performance. Current onboarding practices do not effectively promote retention of department policies and procedures. Additionally, there is no reliable system in place for tracking staff accountability, which impacts the quality and consistency of services. Further analysis of the data revealed that the size of team is contributing factor. The staff does not have an administrative assistant or manager to develop and implement onboarding processes and conduct follow up meetings on department procedures and policies. However, the technology available in the department will allow for this to be developed.

I would appreciate advice on which intervention strategies might be most effective for improving staff onboarding and accountability. What interventions could help improve staff engagement and foster clearer expectations without overwhelming the team or creating resistance to change?
