Great post! I am biased towards PDSA ("S" = Study) or PDCA as a methodology since I come from a lean six sigma background, with "lean" being closely tied to PDSA/PDCA as a methodology. We would also want to incorporate some form of project planning when talking about implementation since project planning or project management would a little outside of the PDSA process, although we WOULD want to go through PDSA cycles of improvement as post-implementation. In that vein, one might consider a methodology like "FOCUS-PDCA". While this this is not an entirely "lean engineering" concept, "FOCUS-PDSA" attempts to wrap our minds around the need for solid project planning (which is why I also personally approach all projects with a PM hat as well). This model nicely marries "problem solving" and "continual, gradual improvement" with proper project scoping and team development. Two sides of a very important coin! Again, great post, incorporating this outside subject matter into our discussion
