Your report will include a critical assessment of how well these human resource systems reflect (or fail to reflect) the contemporary human resource practices and techniques outlined in your textbook, and recommendations for improvement. As a result, the report has three major objectives: To accurately describe the current human resource practice (s) within the organization. To critically assess this approach, as compared to best practices. To make specific recommendations for improvement incorporating course- related techniques and approaches. Identify the HR professional you will interview for this assignment. You will need to find a human resource representative or line manager who uses human resource programs and policies and has some experience in day-to-day HR. This may involve cold calling an organization to identify someone who may able to assist you. 2. Develop your interview questions. Your interview should include all functional areas we have studied in the course (refer to list below). Conduct the interview in-person or via zoom, over the telephone, or electronically through email. Whichever method you choose, please consider sending the list of questions via email to the individual in advance so that they can prepare for your interview. Try not to take up more than one hour of time with the individual in a face-to- face interview. Ask if you can follow-up through email if any further questions for clarification. you have Please ensure you correctly note when the interview took place and provide contact information for the interviewee at the end of your report as proof that it was completed. This information will also need to be included in your proposal. The instructor may make random calls to the interviewees and will need contact information. 5. Review and begin working on the Group Proposal. The proposal is worth 2.5% of your group project grade. Step 3: Complete a Gap Analysis: For each of the 16 major functions covered during this course: 1. Describe the current HR practices at the organization. Review the data you have collected about the organization from your interviewees (primary sources) and collected materials, such as brochures, (secondary sources). Identify the current HR-related practices at the organization, so you have a clear understanding of what the company currently does (i.e., the existing situation or "what is"). 2. Research best practices as outlined by the textbook and other resources. Reference your textbook, journal articles, and other resources on the major units covered during this course. What do they indicate the company should be doing (i.e., best practices or "what should be)? Are there any areas where there is a clear opportunity for the company to improve their practices? Find research support through Conestoga's Library. Step 4: Make Recommendations: For each of the major functions (16) covered during this course: 1. Make suggestions for improvement and identify the benefits of following your suggestions. Based on your research and learning in this course, make suggestions for improvement concerning how practices related to each major course unit might be improved. You must also identify the specific soft and hard benefits (see descriptions below) that the organization is likely to realize by making these changes. Soft Benefits such as but not limited to: improved morale, more effective hiring practices, improved job satisfaction Hard Benefits such as but not limited to: reduced turnover, shortened hiring lead times, and reduced costs. The benefits you identify should: Be specific and measurable. You research must include both primary research (interview, questionnaire or observation with the organization itself) and secondary research (books, websites, journal articles, newspaper articles) sources. These sources must be cited and referenced properly according to APA@Conestoga guidelines. NOTE: SIMPLY DESCRIBING THE CURRENT HUMAN RESOURCE SYSTEMS IS NOT SUFFICIENT. Step 5: Complete and submit your report 1. Create the final report. For each of the major units in this course , summarize the following information: Description: Explain the company's current practices. Analysis: Describe what the textbook/research indicates is best practice and how this compares to the company's approach. Explain the advantages and disadvantages of the existing HR practices in light of this information. Recommendations: Indicate what you recommend the company could or should change and how this will impact the organization.
