Students will prepare a proposal that mimics the process of developing a health promotion program by outlining the steps of a needs assessment and implementation for a county in state (you can choose a state you like).
The purpose of this assignment is to familiarize you with the process of finding, reviewing, and using national, state, and county data to inform a health promotion strategy located in a real setting. This will be done by applying your knowledge of the often-used PRECEDE-PROCEED model
Students will work through the phases of the PRECEDE-PROCEED model using use existing epidemiological data. You will identify a health issue for your county and propose an intervention and implementation.
Scenario:
You are a health promotion specialist that have been hired by the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) to complete the health promotion strategy to prevent/reduce/promote __________health issue in __________ setting for ___________ County, state.
Because of your training in health sciences, you immediately turn to the PRECEDE-PROCEED model to guide your efforts to plan and implement a strategy. Further, because you have an entry-level foundation in the social ecological approaches, you will focus your intervention activities on the individual behaviors OR the environment in which they take place.
For example, you propose to address the high prevalence of diabetes by implementing an educational intervention for individuals OR by working on policy change to require calorie and sugar information on food menus.
