Every day we make decisions without even realizing we are making them. From, what color shoes to wear, or even when you are going to get out of bed in the morning. But did you know that decision making can be a career? Project managers are getting paid to make decisions, it's as simple as that.

As a unique field, more and more projects are requiring this type of specialization. We," live in The Project Economy, where projects are the driving force behind how work is done, change is realized, and value is delivered (PMI)." This field was not always seen as something to specialize in but is a growing field because of the realization that project managers make life easier for everyone on a project.

As an activity is being developed the responsibilities vary depending on what is needed. As projects are becoming more and more complex, "89% of high performing organizations have a project manager... we should focus on finding a leader who has vision (Kashyap)." For example, as a construction project shifts between phases, there is a shift in responsibility to accommodate different teams and their needs. This requires them to recognize that," responsibilities lie not just within the planning process... also within preparing for unforeseen circumstances (Kashyap)." To keep everything running smoothly, a different job will need separate sets of skills, in most cases this is not just something anyone in a job can handle on their own without the correct training.

In the case of Microsoft Project, this software is very beneficial to address issues or just reference important information. A project manager," begins with established, broad phrases for a plan...and the resources who will execute the plan provide the detailed tasks that fill out each phase (Lewis et al. 60)." Not every online resource would be able to calculate and organize information in the way that is required by a project manager. As a project develops, not only does the manager need to adapt, but so does the program. Microsoft makes it easier to face issues when they arise in an organized fashion.

I knew that project managers oversee projects, but I did not understand to what depth in the experience I have had doing construction work. There have been times where work was delayed, and resources were wasted because of the lack of an authoritative person. The people that I have worked with have been passive and lacked the experience of a project manager. Where if there was one present, then we would have been able to ask them, and they would have possibly given us a better solution than the course that was followed.

Project management is essentially finding creative ways to problem solve in a project. Their roles are always changing and even though they are not a required party, having one will ease the workload of everyone involved.
