There are many SMTP-to-SMS gateways available. These gateways receive messages via the SMTP protocol and then forward the message via the SMS protocol. The SMS protocol is more commonly known as txt messages associated with your cell phone. Because of these gateways, it is straightforward to send an email message directly to your cell phone. All that is needed is a way to provide an email address for your cell phone. Each Cell Provider generates an email address for the cell phones in which it provides coverage. This email address is the concatenation of your 10-digit phone number with the domain name of the Cell Provider. For example, if my cell phone number is (818) 677-4655 and it was provided by AT&T my phone's email address would be 8186774655 @txt.att.net You can use the following table to determine the phone number associated with your cell phone. Then you can send yourself an email message directly to your cell phone as a txt message. E.g., $ echo "Hello" | mail 8186774655@txt.att.ne
