1/What Would You Do? Client Receivables

You are compiling the financial statements for a telephone repair company and notice an account receivable from another of your clients that is past due sixty days. You are pretty sure the other client did not accrue the account payable on their books. Would it be ethical to look at the other clients books and see if was accrued? If it is not shown on their books, what would you do?

2/What Would You Do ? Your New Tax Practice

You are excited to begin as a tax professional in your community and have lots of potential clients. In setting up your office, you decide on an LLC structure; as part of this you have to register a name with the state. Your brother is in marketing and comes up with two great namesMaximum Tax Refunds LLC and Maximum Tax Deductions LLC. You like the name No Tax Audits LLC. Which, if any, of these names are acceptable under the AICPA rules? Can you come up with any alternative names that might be allowed but still be unique and good for marketing your services?

3/What Would You Do ? No Receipts

Jose works as an auditor for the State of Texas and has been assigned to the audit of a large school district. The following conversation takes place about a travel voucher that was reimbursed: Employee: Ive requested the documentation you asked for, but the hotel says its no longer in their system. Jose: Dont you have the credit card receipt or credit card statement? Employee: I paid cash. Jose: What about a copy of the hotel bill? Employee: I threw it out. Jose: Thats a problem. We have to document all your travel expenses for the city managers office. Employee: I cant produce documents that the hotel cant find. What do you want me to do? What should Jose do in this situation? How might your answer change if the city manager had signed off on the expense reimbursement when it was initially submitted?
