Hello, please help wth a response to the below week 3 discussion posting.
Based on what is presented in the module, I would not be able to give the executive sponsor and answer on completing the project in less than 6 months. Given the fact that I have just taken on the project and had not yet had the chance to analyze the project, it would be negligent of me to give an answer to a question I am not properly informed on at the time.
It is crucial for me to first understand the scope of the project; what it entails, what the customer is requiring, what resources we are required to provide for completion, what is the definition of done, and any constraints or risks associated with the project. Once I understand the scope of the project, functional and non-functional requirements and our required resources, I can take that information and plan the Work Breakdown Structure. This will allow me to detail the tasks required and, utilizing the Gantt Chart, outline a timeline for each task with personnel requirements. Depending on what the project is, I may also need to meet with developers to get an understanding of the feasibility of certain aspects of the project to more accurately lay out a timeline.
I would explain to the executive sponsor that I would like to take the time to review the scope of the project and all associated requirements and resources available before answering his question on completing the project in under 6 months, so I give the most accurate information possible. I'd probably offer to set up a meeting to discuss the project timeline on a date and time we both agree to; obviously not putting myself in a position to rush planning out the project appropriately.
Best, Alecia
