The subsurface conditions at a site consist of a thick deposit of a soil known as "Drammen Clay". The subsurface conditions indicate that this soil deposit is 65ft. thick overlying bedrock, the water table in the area is nearly horizontal and is known to be near the soil surface, the bulk unit weight of the soil is 134lbft3 and the unit weight of water is 62.4lbft3. It is desired to estimate the short-term bearing capacity of a closed end pipe pile 10.75 inches diameter and 30ft in length, as well as the capacity of a group of nine piles with the capacity calculated above and in a square pattern with a spacing from center to center of five diameters.
The ULS design should be performed according to DA 2 of EC 7.
The soil property "Cu" was obtained from UU triaxial tests. The results are indicated below in correspondence with the depth of sampling.
