5. Comparators are logic circuits that are used to compare two binary numbers. The result of the comparison are single-bit outputs that indicate whether the numbers being compared are equal to each other, or if one number is greater or less than another. Figure 1 below shows the logic symbol for a comparator (also referred to as magnitude comparator) that compares two 2-bit numbers A (AAo) and B (B Bo) and activates one of three outputs, E, G, L, if A B, A > B, or A
