Here is my analysis phase requirements document I wrote based on my course project proposal, Detail My Ride (proposal listed below). This requirements document is required per rubric grading to 3 to 4 pages in length. What other types of date or uses can be included in this requirements document to be 3 to 4 pages in length?
Course Project Proposal:
Detail My Ride will be the name of my fictitious business.
My business scenario is that of a mobile car detailing service. I am the business CEO and I currently have three additional employees. These are recent employees within the last 6 months as business has picked up post Covid and I can no longer handle the workload myself. I use my personal vehicle to travel to client locations to service the vehicles. I want to keep all logs of expenses for business use of my vehicle for tax purposes. I purchase my own supplies through amazon.com and want to keep log of all purchases there as well. I keep personal records of my employees and myself and all customers personal information including credit card numbers, addresses, copy of their ID. I also run and keep on file a background and criminal history for both employees and clients. I do my own payroll out of a business banking account and keep those records as well. Employees clock in and out using an app on their phone than submit to me by a deadline to be paid that pay period. As I gain more clients and need more employees, Id like to have all those records I keep together in one data base management system. With a DBMS, Id like to be able to send upcoming cleaning reminders to clients as well as promotional mail and or emails. Also, taking demographics from clients and possibly sending out promotional mailings to neighbors, etc.in quantities at a time. I would be able to send upcoming work schedules and reminders of payroll submission automatically as well. I would also like to be able to order supplies more efficiently. Soon, I would like to be able to offer gas, mileage and possibly regular vehicle maintenance reimbursements and keeping track of this and possibly automatically scheduling this routine maintenance on employees vehicles. Also, keeping up to date, especially with Covid, the requirements we are to meet as we travel to client's homes and work in their person vehicles. Uniform ordering and laundering. Also, any certifications or employee training could be done and kept track of through the DBMS. I would only work in and edit or add to the DBMS, however, employees would be sending their hours through the system and can view their hours, put in time off, view and print paystubs and w-2s, etc. Mainly, a DBMS would allow me to spend the time needed to plan properly advertisement, hiring, training, and keeping up with competition in the area.
Analysis Phase Requirements Documents:
Synopsis: The proposed database is for the mobile automobile detailing service business, Detail My Ride. The business owner, who is also the CEO, currently employs three people and uses his personal vehicle to travel to customer sites to service automobiles. The database will be used to keep track of expenses related to using vehicles for the business, employee mileage and gas expenses, employee documentation and background checks, client information, payroll processing, and supply orders. The business owner also plans to use the database for lead generating and client and demographic data collection as well as executing tasks to send promotional mail and emails based on the collected data. The database will also schedule and execute upcoming appointment emails, referral promotions for repeat customers, and any billing or past due balances that incurred amongst any customers. The business owner also plans to use the database for gathering demographic information from clients.
Needs Assessment: In order to keep track of expenses and employee information, a database management system is necessary. The business owner needs a way to consolidate all records into one system, as well as automate reminders for payroll and schedules for upcoming workdays. Additionally, the business owner wants to use the database for sending promotional mail and emails, and gathering demographic information from clients, in order to expand the clientele and hire more staff.
Feasibility Assessment: Using a database management system is feasible for Detail My Ride as it will help the business owner to keep track of all records in one place, automate reminders, and expand the clientele and hire more staff. The business owner also has an Amazon business account which could be integrated with the database.
Alternatives Assessment: One alternative to using a database management system would be to manually keep track of all records, expenses, and employee information. However, this would be time-consuming and less efficient. Another alternative could be using a cloud-based system like Amazon Redshift. However, it is recommended to use MySQL as it is widely used, open-source and have wide range of supported libraries and community support.
Recommendations: Based on the needs and feasibility assessment, it is recommended to use MySQL as the database management system for Detail My Ride. MySQL is a widely used, open-source system that has a wide range of supported libraries and community support.
