If the student ar- riving finds 0, 1, 2, 3, or 4 students already in Professor DeRoos' office, then the student will leave with probability 0, 0.1, 0.2, 0.3, and 0.4, respectively. Assume that Professor DeRoos can only talk to one student at a time, and the time he spends on each student follows an exponential distribution with rate . Also, assume once Professor DeRoos finishes spending time with any student, this student immediately leaves the office. Set this up as a birth and death process and determine the birth and death rates. Draw the rate diagram (state transition diagram)
