good manager works to increase an employees productivity and engagement. For this to happen, a manager must be active in an employees learning process. The reason this is critical is because a manager is close enough to an employees daily actions to identify what their needs are for learning and increase in performance. They can identify what will have the most impact on an employees performance, which they can directly influence.

Encourage managers to provide employees with relevant information that is useful. By doing so, an employee is more likely to use their newly learned skills to show their manager that they understand. A manager can enforce this by helping them develop their skills, acknowledging improvements, and providing feedback.

Encourage managers to check in with their employees regularly. This promotes accountability for both the employee and manager. The check-ins should consist of support, opportunities, and affirmations.

Engage managers about their employee development process. A managers awareness and involvement with a new employee is key for the success of both employee and manager. By focusing on implementing training and skillset development, a manager can increase an employees output, making them more effective.
